Neurological and Vascular Assessment

Neurological and vascular assessments are essential checks we carry out to assess the circulation and nerve function in your feet. These tests help us detect early signs of conditions such as peripheral arterial disease, diabetic neuropathy, or reduced blood flow, which can lead to more serious complications if left unmanaged.

Procedure

We use tools such as a Doppler ultrasound, monofilament testing, pulse checks, and an electrocardiogram (ECG). We can identify any changes in sensation, reduced circulation, or risk of ulceration. We can also detect blood clots in the legs, heart arrhythmia and other conditions. These assessments are particularly important for patients with diabetes, a history of vascular issues, or anyone experiencing numbness, tingling, or cold feet.

Early detection is key — and these simple, non-invasive checks allow us to monitor your foot health, provide appropriate advice, and make referrals to your GP or other specialists if needed. Keeping on top of your neurological and vascular health helps keep your feet safe, functional, and protected long term.

“After just a regular appointment, coming in for an ingrown toenail, Shelly picked up something with my heart. She referred me to the GP.

They wanted to follow up straight away and now I have a hospital appointment. Dread to think what could have happened if it wasn't picked up then”
